September 23, 2008 --- AHA issues Regulatory Advisory on Adoption of ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS
The "ICD-10-Clinical Modification/Procedure Coding System" Fact Sheet provides general information about the ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS including benefits of adopting the new coding system, structural differences between ICD-9-CM and ICD-10-CM/PCS, and implementation planning recommendations. The fact sheet is available in downloadable format from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Medicare Learning Network.
Implementation date for "Red Flag" rules promulgated by the Federal Trade Commission has been moved to May 1, 2009. This is to ensure that the FTC is able to provide guidance on questions involving the applicability of the rules.

HHS Proposed Adoption of ICD-10 Code Sets and Updated Electronic Transaction Standards
On August 15, 2008, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced a long-awaited proposed regulation that would replace the ICD-9-CM code sets now used to report health care diagnoses and procedures with greatly expanded ICD-10 code sets, effective October 1, 2011.
