Position Statement

Imagine …. What if the CHIA vision was to be the “premier resource for health information standards, governance and integrity”?

The vision statement is CHIA’s road map for both the current and future guiding transformational initiatives that provide leaders and members with generative ideals for growth. It is the “work” that task forces, committees and the Board can support, evaluate and develop. The CHIA vision should be easily understood, short, inspiring and functional for the diversity of our health information professional’s clinical expertise and professional practice.

The current vision statement “quality healthcare through quality information” may be difficult to understand or validate how it relates to individual practice. What exactly does that mean, how do we know if we have achieved this vision? Where is the definition and standards that define quality?

If we explore health professionals today, we have diverse settings, backgrounds and work environments. On a day to day basis, what do we all strive to achieve? The ability to maintain a standard based on evidence-based best practice is key, regardless of our specializations. Maintaining, with integrity, the governance of your specialization – whether on privacy, security, revenue cycle, coding, registries – becomes critical to assure technology, data, information, and resulting analytics produce results that emulate our professional ethics.

As CHIA looks to the future and how to utilize our mission and vision to inspire and attract professionals, it is imperative we become the premier resource for health information standards, governance and integrity.
