CHIA has over a hundred dedicated volunteers participating on committees, task forces, and other volunteer groups. Whether you are interested in volunteering on one of these committees, on the CHIA Board of Directors, as a Delegate to AHIMA, or in another capacity, just let us know by completing the Volunteer Questionnaire.

Establish and maintain communication between CHIA and existing and potential HIA/HIT programs in California.

Candidates Committee
Committee promotes programs and nominations related to AHIMA elected positions, AHIMA Foundation Triumph Awards, AHIMA CSA Core Service Achievement Awards and CHIA Recognition Awards.
Heidi Shaffer, RHIA
Coding and Data Quality Committee
Disseminates current coding and reimbursement information to CHIA membership and other health care practitioners and takes an active role in all matters related to classification, collection and use of heath care data.

Coding Roundtables Committee
Promotes coding roundtable events and education at the component local associations
Chantel Susztar, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P
Community Education Committee
Develops tools and education for consumers to assist them in developing their personal health record (PHR) and to understand related laws and regulations.
Deborah Collier, RHIA
Convention Committee
Plans the topics, speakers and events for the CHIA Convention & Exhibit. Members also assist on-site with convention activities.
Jon Stuart, RHIT
Editorial Advisory Board
Advisory and peer review body concerned with the content of the CHIA Journal. Reviews and approves articles for publishing in the CHIA Journal. Members assist in identifying topics and authors for journal articles and make other recommendations related to the CHIA Journal.
Cynthia Doyon, RHIA
Legislation Committee
Reviews proposed legislation and regulations to ascertain the impact on the HIM profession and consumers and informs the CHIA membership of pertinent pending and passed legislation.
Janet Chisholm, RHIA
Mentorship Committee
Promotes the AHIMA mentorship program within CHIA. Brings together students and new HIM professionals with seasoned HIM professionals for mutually beneficial communication.
Adriana Van Der Graaf, RHIA, CHP, CCS
Nominating Committee
Identifies qualified CHIA members to serve as CHIA Board of Director officers, AHIMA Delegates, and AHIMA Nominating Committee representatives.
Michael Ball, RHIA
Online Education Committee
Coordinates the development of CHIA’s online educational programs and resources.
Tracey Freitas, RHIT
Privacy and Security Committee
Advises the CHIA Board and recommends resources for CHIA members on issues related to electronic heath records (EHRs), health information exchange (HIE) implementation and privacy & security of health information. Advances CHIA’s effective collaboration with external public and private organizations that have a mutual interest in these topics.

Seminars Committee
Plans the topics, speakers and locations for CHIA Seminars. Members may act as on-site coordinators and presiders at seminars.
