When your AHIMA membership is current and you have designated California as your Component Association, become part of the distinguished California Health Information Community by choosing an exclusive Dual Membership (AHIMA + CHIA) for an additional investment of $50. You will be prompted to upgrade your membership and join now. CHIA Professional membership is the gateway to elevating your professional value through LEAD-Leadership, Education, Advocacy, Discovery.

Yes, CHIA membership is contingent upon current AHIMA membership and California as the designated Component Association.

Yes, when it is time to renew your AHIMA membership, you can choose a Component Association other than the state in which you reside. If you would like California to be your Component Association before it is time to renew your membership, contact AHIMA customer service and request to change your Component Association designation.

As the largest Component Association of AHIMA, CHIA provides a distinguished community of California HI professionals representing some of the most renowned health systems in the nation. Your $50 investment in CHIA offers up to 25% off continuing education programs. For example, as a CHIA member, attending one of CHIA’s flagship eLearning programs saves $60, which is more than the cost of membership.

CHIA’s Dual Membership (AHIMA + CHIA) ensures access to networking opportunities with member-leaders who are dedicated to elevating professional values through LEAD

No, not always. Why? Because CHIA’s technology is designed to allow members to join CHIA as a Dual Membership (AHIMA + CHIA) any time. Renewal reminders will be sent to you when your CHIA membership expiration date approaches. However, AHIMA membership is required to maintain your CHIA (Component Association) dual membership.

When CHIA receives your AHIMA membership information designating California as your Component Association, it is uploaded into our system. An expiration date will not be assigned until you upgrade your membership to a CHIA member and submit the $50 payment. However, when CHIA receives information from AHIMA that membership is no longer valid, the ‘member-type’ is assigned a non-member status and will no longer allow access to AHIMA or CHIA member benefits.

Like AHIMA, CHIA Membership status is good for one year from the date of purchase. To renew your CHIA membership, select the option to renew.

Emerging Professional (Student) Members in good standing can serve as CHIA committee members in a designated student position with a voice but no voting privileges. Per AHIMA and CHIA Bylaws, student members shall not be entitled to other voting privileges, hold office, or serve as a delegate.
