Legislation & Advocacy

The CHIA Legislative and Advocacy Committee plays a key role in advancing CHIA's advocacy initiatives. The committee is charged with monitoring and informing CHIA members of pertinent legislation and regulations in California. The committee actively tracks health information related bills proposed by the California legislature annually. It assesses the potential impact of new legislation and regulations on health information industry practices. The committee consults with other professional healthcare associations on issues of mutual interest. In coordination with the Executive Office and the Board of Directors, this community provides input and feedback to legislators regarding bills and regulations as they are proposed.

The CHIA Awards and Scholarship Fund offers CHIA Emerging Professional (Student), CHIA Professional members, and California’s CAHIIM-accredited programs, a variety of scholarships, awards, and grants. The purpose of these programs is to promote the importance of HI professional credentials, strengthen the HI profession, promote the value of AHIMA and CHIA membership, identify and engage future leaders, and support health information-related research. .
