CHIA Member participation through volunteering is integral to CHIA’s mission as it enriches and fortifies the association, offering meaningful avenues to contribute to the HI profession. Qualification: Current CHIA Member CHIA ‘Operational’ Volunteer Opportunities Volunteer roles that CHIA relies on annually to support CHIA’s ongoing ‘operational’ activities. These include supporting CHIA’s digital component groups. These may be year-round or a shorter-term commitment, but generally, these groups might
meet monthly. Selects deserving recipients (from received member nominations) for CHIA’s recognition awards, student scholarship awards, and health information and informatics program grants. Identifies and recommends deserving candidates to CHIA’s Awards & Scholarship Committee for CHIA’s Recognition Awards and AHIMA Triumph Awards and coordinates the completion of the application process for respective nominations. The committee plans and develops the educational program and social events for CHIA's Convention & Exhibit (CHIACON). It assists in finding and selecting thought leaders and topics to create a dynamic, all-inclusive premier educational event for California's health information community. Solicits and develops digital content for California’s health information community. It serves as an advisory and peer-review body that educates its readers on matters relevant to health information professionals. Monitors proposed legislation and regulations with potential impacts on HI and/or the HI profession. Makes recommendations to the CHIA Board of Directors to watch, support, support with amendment, or oppose proposed legislation and regulatory changes. Informs CHIA members about relevant legislative and regulatory actions and involve the members in advocating for or against proposals as appropriate. Advocates for HI issues identified by CHIA and/or the AHIMA as priorities. Plans, develops and coordinates an integrated mission-centric membership recruitment and retention program for California’s health information community. This includes developing strategies to build membership and support member engagement and long-term loyalty. The Nominating Committee identifies and selects qualified CHIA members willing to submit their names for consideration on the CHIA Ballot to serve as a director or AHIMA delegate. The committee presents to the Board a proposed leadership ballot for CHIA's Board of Directors. The committee advises on strategies to strengthen CHIA’s leadership development and member engagement efforts by refining procedures for identifying volunteers to assume leadership roles, all while promoting diversity and inclusion within the organization. The Board of Directors appoints the Nominating Committee annually, and to be considered for this Committee, a separate application is required. This consortium includes subject matter experts across the health information continuum who ensure CHIA offers LEADing-edge continuing education that meets the needs of the California HI community. The consortium reviews and approves CHIA’s proposed educational programs to ensure that the content meets the AHIMA requirements for continuing education. CHIA ‘Strategy’ Volunteer Opportunities (LEAD Teams)Aligning with CHIA’s strategic initiatives, LEAD Teams are short-term volunteer groups dedicated to developing LEADing-edge continuing education programs for the professional development of health information professionals in California. These
teams create CHIA’s flagship e-Learning programs (six CEUs), or curate ‘hot topic’ webinar programs led by thought leaders (up to two CEUs) for California’s health information community. Prepares CHIA’s Release of Information & Confidentiality (patient’s access to health information) flagship eLearning Programs. Prepares CHIA’s eHI Symposium Flagship eLearning Program Prepares CHIA’s Fall eLearning Program, CHIA’s Advanced Coding eLearning Program, CHIA’s Revenue Integrity eLearning Program or Medical Coding and Data Quality Webinars. |
