Position Statement
AHIMA Delegate candidates were asked to respond to the following: What innovative strategies will you use to elevate CHIA’s influence within AHIMA and within the healthcare industry, ensuring California’s diverse and passionate health information community contributes to—and benefits from—national initiatives shaping the HI profession’s future across all healthcare settings?

HIM profession plays a vital role in healthcare industry. We are one of key resources for the success of the healthcare system.

With CHIA mission, which is to lead California HIM professionals to better health outcomes with integrity, education and advocacy, I am committed to providing CHIA needs to prepare for a future that will explore the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) technology, healthcare policy and data management. The strategies that I can use to elevate CHIA’s influence to AHIMA and our healthcare industry is to Embrace the AI and automation technologies– the AI in healthcare has brought opportunities for patient care as well as operational workflows. Critical shifts in strategy will emphasize speed more, scale less and innovation most of all. Second, invest in Professional Development, letting us encourage all the CHIA members to join workshops, free courses, and training to grow personal skills and help the organization. We need to develop and deploy AI regulatory approach through innovation and growth while at the same time we avoid regulatory and non-regulatory actions that may hinder expansion.

It is imperative that HIM professionals adapt and evolve their knowledge, skills and functions to become educated, effective users and policy advisors of the different technologies currently emerging, as well as those not yet envisioned. It is vital to the quality health information needed for a healthy world.

CHIA has created great health information leaders; these great leaders has helped who I am today. It is my time to repay the HIM professionals and members, that we can help each other to embrace this era of significant change to assume the position of information strategists at all levels, by aligning HIM education and HIM functions with technology and policy. This will only happen when there is a transparency that enables regulators to review the process used to achieve better result.
