Position Statement
AHIMA Delegate candidates were asked to respond to the following: What innovative strategies will you use to elevate CHIA’s influence within AHIMA and within the healthcare industry, ensuring California’s diverse and passionate health information community contributes to—and benefits from—national initiatives shaping the HI profession’s future across all healthcare settings?

I will elevate CHIA’s influence within AHIMA and the broader healthcare industry by positioning California as a national thought leader in health information management innovation, equity, and practice transformation. First, I will support and strengthen CHIA’s voice in AHIMA councils, workgroups and advocacy efforts by encouraging and mentoring diverse California professionals to seek national committee and board roles, ensuring our perspectives inform policy standards, and workforce initiatives.

Second, I will assist with creating structure pathways for sharing California best practices such as advanced privacy programs, digital health, interoperability, and AI governance through national webinars and conference presentations co-branded with AHIMA. This will showcase CHIA as a source of scalable solutions for complex healthcare environments.

Third, assist and support the building of cross-state and cross-sector partnerships with academic institutions, health systems, public health agencies, and technology leaders to pivot innovative models in data stewardship, patient access, and information integrity, then elevate successful outcomes to the national stage.

Fourth, I will strengthen advocacy alignment between CHIA and AHIMA by proactively engaging in federal and state policy discussions, translating California’s regulatory experience into practical guidance that shapes national standards. Through collaboration, visibility, and leadership development, CHIA will not only contribute to, but help shape, the future of the health information profession across all healthcare settings.
