Position Statement
CHIA Director candidates
were asked to respond to the following: With California's health information community spanning multiple generations—from seasoned
professionals navigating career transitions to Gen Z entering the workforce—how would you collaborate with CHIA Leadership to ensure CHIA's programs
and communications resonate across all career stages and foster intergenerational mentorship?
California’s health information community spans multiple generations, each bringing unique strengths, expectations, and perspectives to our profession. If elected to the CHIA Board, I will collaborate with CHIA Leadership to ensure our programs and
communications remain relevant, accessible, and meaningful to members at every stage of their HIM journey.
My approach centers on connection, clarity, and continuity.
Connection:
I believe the most impactful insights come from genuine engagement. My service on the Membership Task Force has reinforced the importance of understanding what members value, what they need, and how their experiences shape
their connection to CHIA. By being present at CHIA activities, listening closely to members’ experiences, and learning from the challenges they face in real time, I can help shape programs that reflect the needs of students, emerging professionals,
mid career specialists, and seasoned leaders alike. These natural interactions ensure CHIA stays grounded in the lived experiences of its membership.
Clarity:
To resonate across generations, CHIA’s educational offerings and communications must be accessible and adaptable. Through my work on the Professional Education Consortium Committee, I have seen firsthand how thoughtful planning
and collaboration help support high quality learning opportunities. I will continue to support CHIA Leadership in delivering education that allows individuals to learn at the pace and depth appropriate for their roles—whether they are entering
the profession, transitioning into new specialties, or seeking advanced leadership development. This includes continuing a balanced communication strategy that blends traditional formats with modern, concise digital content so that all members
can engage with CHIA in ways that fit their preferences.
Continuity:
One of CHIA’s greatest strengths is its legacy of leadership. Our past presidents hold deep institutional knowledge and serve as powerful role models for professionalism, advocacy, and ethical standards. I am committed to
expanding opportunities for these leaders to mentor rising professionals through structured and informal interactions—panel discussions, leadership roundtables, advisory roles, and visible mentorship engagement at CHIA events. Equally important
is supporting reverse mentorship, where new professionals can share fresh insights on emerging technologies and workforce trends. By promoting these multidirectional mentoring relationships, we ensure that wisdom, innovation, and leadership continuously
flow across generations.
My Commitment:
If elected to the Board, my goal is to strengthen CHIA as a community where every member—regardless of age, credentialing status, or career stage—feels valued, supported, and connected. Through collaborative leadership,
thoughtful communication, and a strong mentorship culture that honors both our legacy and our future, I will work to advance CHIA’s mission and reinforce our collective impact on California’s health information landscape.
