CHIA seeks qualified and experienced professional members for elected leadership positions. CHIA seeks leadership nominations every Fall. Elected leaders assume office July 1st each year.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible candidates must be a CHIA Professional or Emeritus Member.

Application, Selection and Notification

  • Nominations for the CHIA Board of Directors and Delegates to AHIMA are accepted upon completion of CHIA’s Leadership Application form. Please note: Single-word answers or blank fields may not provide enough information to best promote candidacy.
  • A minimum of two and a maximum of four references must be provided when completing the Application. A reference questionnaire will be provided to the individuals completing the candidate reference evaluation.
  • Candidate nominees are blindly reviewed and discussed by CHIA’s Nominating Committee and evaluated based on the elements provided in CHIA’s Leadership Application form and reference evaluation.
  • Candidates for the ballot are deliberated using the Nominal Voting process. Candidate names are not revealed to Committee Members until after the selection of final ballot candidates.
  • Candidates will be notified by the CHIA President before December 1st

CHIA Elected Leadership Opportunities Include:

This position is primarily one of learning and observing the management function of the CHIA Board in preparation for assuming the presidency, active involvement in the strategic planning process, evaluating the structure, content and effectiveness of CHIA governance, and support of the President in AHIMA and CHIA leadership activities. Serves a three-year term in office (as President-elect, President, Past President). (1 position)

Serve as voting member of the CHIA Board of Directors as well as voting member of CHIA’s House of Delegates. Directors serve as Board Liaisons to CHIA’s Volunteer Workgroups, Affiliated Organizations and External Liaisons assigned by the President and approved by the CHIA Board. Stewards of CHIA's Strategic Initiatives. Serves a three-year term of office. (2 positions)

Serves as a communication and membership link between AHIMA and the CHIA membership. Delegates contribute or recommend action on issues affecting the health information profession, facilitate the voice of the members, votes on important matters pertaining to the AHIMA House of Delegates, communicate and seek feedback, and inform the CHIA membership on AHIMA and House of Delegate activities. Expected to conduct member communication forums to share AHIMA business and delegate topics. Serves a two-year term of office. (1 position in odd voting years, 2 positions in even voting years)
