Release of Information AcademyTwo-day eLearning Series: April 7 & 9, 2026 9:00 am – 12:10 pm (PT)The release of protected health information (ROI) is complex and constantly changing. It requires an understanding of both Federal and California laws to ensure compliance. Join experts to explore and review ROI basics and new legislation impacting ROI processes, subpoena compliance and best practices. This Academy will walk attendees through the “what”, “when”, and “why” of releasing protected health information. Day 1 will focus on fundamentals of release across the continuum of care, including pediatrics, mental health, reproductive health and updates to regulatory requirements for sensitive records. Day 2 will focus on the Basics and Challenges of managing Subpoenas and Worker Compensation requests across the continuum of care. Content will align with the CHIA Subpoena Manual and the new Release of Information eBook series available in the CHIA store, giving attendees clear, practical guidance that can be put to work right away. Her areas of responsibility include oversight of release of information for four acute care and three specialty care hospitals in addition to HIM operations at a 700+ provider multi-specialty medical group. She has a master's in public health with an emphasis in health management & policy and is passionate about creating meaningful and positive healthcare experiences.

Wanda Teresa Ziemba, EJD, MFA, RHIT, CCS, CPC, CHCO, experienced Education Officer with a demonstrated history of working in the hospital and healthcare industry. Wanda is skilled in Healthcare Consulting, Medicaid, TJC, the Healthcare Industry overall and Medical Billing. She is a strong education professional with a Certificate focused in Project Management from the University of California, Berkeley and a EjD in Healthcare Law. She has held roles as a Coding Compliance Manager, Privacy Officer and an Associate Compliance Officer.
