Collaboration is Key to Igniting the Future of CHIA | Leadership at its Best
Something from Sally - Immediate Past President
I am excited to share that I have taken on a new assignment with CHIA’s Component Group TaskForce. The goal of this six-month task force includes assembling a collaborative group of volunteer members with diverse health information and leadership experience, to develop the new ComponentGroup (CG) structure and design the procedures that will ensure its success. So far, we have an excellent group of member volunteers who will be reaching out to membership over the next few months. Please take the time to share your thoughts and discuss what your vision of the ComponentGroup structure should be to ensure long-term engagement.
Here are a few ideas for achieving our task force goals:
Review the CHIA Bylaws, CHIA CG Board Draft Framework, Draft Guiding Principles, and CGFAQs presented to delegates as the guiding oversight context for the implementation of Component Groups.
Work with CHIA Staff to understand the technological application of Component Groups
Review existing CLA policies to determine those to be eliminated or transitioned to Component Group operations, including the fiscal/budgeting process.
Finalize Component Group Guiding Principles.
Finalize the Application process.
Develop a rubric for ‘Board Approval’ of Component Groups.
Develop an Annual Report form to assess engagement, evaluate Component Group effectiveness, and identify opportunities for improvement.
I am encouraged to witness this special task force embracing CHIA’s values of LEAD- leadership, education, advocacy and discovery for Component Groups. We thank you in advance for your support and valuable input as we embark on this most important task.Together
we can Ignite the Future of CHIA.
Roberta’s Reflections – Past President
It has been an amazing two years for CHIA. It started with the House of Delegates, the CHIA Board and CLA Leaders, who directed an agile and streamlined CHIA governance model. Best practice research was conducted with other Component Associations and the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) and California’s members-at-large. Three significant changes through the revision of CHIA’s bylaws include:
Transition to one-member/one-vote (sunsetting of traditional House of Delegates)
Implementation of Component Groups providing an simplified and inclusive method of connecting California’s HI community (retirement of the Component Local Association model)
Expansion of the CHIA Board of Directors to nine versus seven members beginning in FY 25-26
Other significant changes include:
Introduction of the “GIG Economy”; bite-size volunteer workgroup opportunities
Two successful eHI Symposium programs designed to ignite fervor as HI professionals to uphold data quality and integrity through a greater understanding of the trends impacting electronic health information
Launch of a CHIA Membership Recruitment & Retention Committee
CHIA Board-sponsored complimentary Community Chats
Complete Virtualization of the CHIA Executive Office saving thousands of dollars for CHIA.
Raised more than $6,000 for Emerging Professional (Student) Membership funding through coordinated efforts of the Proud Past Presidents and CHiAUCTION24 in memory of Dr. Monica Thurston
Introduced CHIAxchange – an improved B2B meeting sessions promoting PowerMatches That Ignite Impact
