CHIA Delegates Heading to Minneapolis Next Week
AHIMA25 Starts October 12, 2025 | CHIA Delegates Attend Annual HOD Meeting
Since 2012, the HOD has gathered input from the Envisioning Collaborative, leaders who help the board forecast strategy focused on emerging issues and trends that can impact the HI profession, along with the House Leadership Team (CA delegate per state). President Freida Smith, RHIA serves as the lead delegate for CHIA. CHIA’s additional delegates include: President-elect Kamar Braish, MS, RHIA, Diane Lovko-Premeau, MBA, RHIA, CHP, Courtney Hoatson, RHIA, CDIP, CCS and Kathleen Witte, RRA, CCS.
2025 initiatives to be discussed this year include revising the AHIMA mission statement and updating any Bylaws amendments.

CHIA LEADership Seeking Interim CEO/Executive Director | Job Description Available
A job description for the Interim Chief Executive Officer/Executive Director has been released by the Transition Committee.
The Interim CEO/ED provides overall management of CHIA by working in conjunction with the Association Management Consultant (AMC), appointed by the Board, while managing the day-to-day affairs of the CHIA Executive Office staff, and collaborating with the CHIA Board of Directors in overseeing the administrative activities of the association and its key duties.
The Transition Committee, on behalf of CHIA leadership, encourages qualified candidates to request a full job description and submit a letter of interest and CV/resume to Jobs@CaliforniaHIA.org. Questions or inquiries are welcome.

- AB 583 (Effective July 1, 2026) expands the authority of nurse practitioners in matters related to death certification and reporting...
- AB 960 strengthens patient rights in hospitals by ensuring that individuals with physical, intellectual, developmental or cognitive disabilities can have a family/friend caregiver present as needed outside of visiting hours.
- SB 446 mandates businesses and individuals to notify affected California residents of a data breach within 30 days of discovery with limited exceptions for law enforcement or investigative needs.
