Call for Proposals Accepted Until October 10, 2025 CHIA Convention Committee urges professional colleagues to answer the Call for Proposals NOW for CHIACON26.

  • Submit engaging, relevant, and forward-thinking presentations supporting our vision of L EA Ding California’s Health Information Professionals to Ignite Better Health Outcomes.

CHIA Delegates Preparing for HOD Meeting Next Month

AHIMA House of Delegates to Meet October 12, 2025, in Minneapolis at AHIMA25

AHIMA’s national convention takes place in a few short weeks in Minneapolis. A key event is the annual House of Delegates meeting, where important decisions are made for the upcoming term. Since 2012, the HOD has gathered input from the Envisioning Collaborative, leaders who help the board forecast strategy focused on emerging issues and trends that can impact the HI profession, along with the House Leadership Team (CA delegate per state). President Freida Smith, RHIA serves as the lead delegate for CHIA. CHIA’s additional delegates include: President-elect Kamar Braish, MS, RHIA, Diane Lovko-Premeau, MBA, RHIA, CHP, Courtney Hoatson, RHIA, CDIP, CCS and Kathleen Witte, RRA, CCS.  2025 initiatives to be discussed this year include revising the AHIMA mission statement and updating any Bylaws amendments. 

Nominating Committee Seeking Candidates for 2026-27

Nominations for three-year term CHIA Directors, President-elect and two-year term CHIA Delegates to AHIMA for the 2026 CHIA Ballot accepted through October 27, 2025.

CHIA seeks qualified and experienced professional members for elected leadership positions on the Board of Directors. Ignite the Future of CHIA and influence Association policy while networking among other CHIA member-L EADers.

Elevate your professional value through L EA D L eadership, E ducation, A dvocacy and D iscovery  and positively affect the growth and direction of the California health information profession.

Executive Office Succession Planning Underway

CHIA Board of Directors Announced CHIA Executive Director’s Retirement

President Freida Smith shared a recent announcement of the retirement of Executive Director, Sharon Lewis, effective January 2, 2026. Over the next several months, the BOD will be working closely with Sharon to ensure a smooth and thoughtful transition to new executive leadership for the association. CHIA leadership is committed to keeping membership informed on how the succession planning is progressing, so stay tuned for monthly updates in the CHIA Monthly Digest.  Any questions or concerns are welcome.
