Position Statement
CHIA Director candidates were asked to respond to the following: How would you define your role as a Director to connect, ignite, and partner with California’s health information community members to advance CHIA’s strategic initiatives.

As a candidate for CHIA Director and a recently designated Fellow of AHIMA (FAHIMA), I bring a deep commitment to advancing the health informatics profession and fostering collaboration across the healthcare community. The FAHIMA designation reflects my dedication to excellence, leadership, and lifelong learning within the field of health informatics, and I am eager to leverage this expertise in service to CHIA and its members.

In my role as CHIA Director, I would strive to act as a bridge, catalyst, and collaborator within California’s health informatics community, ensuring alignment with CHIA’s strategic initiatives while fostering meaningful connections among diverse stakeholders. With over a decade of experience in health informatics and data integrity, both on the vendor side and for multiple health systems, I have developed a strong foundation in leading innovative partnerships, strategic visioning, and implementing actionable outcomes.

A key focus would be to build a stronger community by connecting health informatics professionals, thought leaders, and emerging talent. By leveraging CHIA’s network, I would create platforms for dialogue, mentorship, and knowledge sharing. Drawing from my experience as a speaker and educator at state and national levels, as well as my FAHIMA credential, I understand the value of empowering members with the tools and opportunities to grow their expertise and elevate the field. Bridging the gap between seasoned professionals and newcomers would be essential to ensuring our community remains strong, inclusive, and forward-thinking.

Health informatics is evolving rapidly, and CHIA must lead that evolution by fostering passion and innovation among its members. I would champion initiatives that highlight emerging trends such as artificial intelligence, interoperability, and person identity management—areas I have actively worked in throughout my career. By facilitating workshops, engaging in thought leadership, and creating educational content, I would inspire members to embrace change, explore new technologies, and advance best practices that will shape the future of health information.

Collaboration is a cornerstone of success, and I would focus on strategic partnerships to advance CHIA’s goals. My experience leading multidisciplinary teams, managing complex projects, and navigating stakeholder relationships equips me to build meaningful alliances with healthcare organizations, academic institutions, and regulatory bodies. These collaborations would provide CHIA members with access to critical resources, professional networks, and support systems. Open dialogue and shared problem-solving would be central to my approach, ensuring that CHIA’s initiatives reflect the collective priorities of its members while driving forward the association’s strategic vision.

Throughout my career, I have worked to strengthen data quality, promote interoperability, and address emerging challenges in health informatics. These efforts uniquely position me to support CHIA’s mission and ensure its relevance in a rapidly changing industry.

In summary, as a CHIA Director, I would embrace the responsibility to connect the community, foster innovation, and drive partnerships that position CHIA as a leader in health informatics. My commitment to collaboration, excellence, and forward-thinking leadership would enable me to support CHIA’s ongoing success and help advance the vital work of health informatics professionals across California.
