CHIA LEADership Valued Advocacy Summit Update
Facts from Freida: Another “On the Hill” Effort Drives Change for HI
The AHIMA Advocacy Summit 2025 in Washington, DC, brought together health information professionals, policymakers, and industry leaders to address critical issues shaping the future of healthcare. The agenda focused on pivotal topics, including the future of electronic prior authorization, privacy and consent in health information exchange, government affairs outlook for 2025, and strategies to improve patient matching and healthcare policy in the 119th Congress. Key issues included artificial intelligence (AI), patient matching, social determinants of health, and global health.
On the second day, AHIMA members participated in Capitol Hill Day, directly advocating for health information issues with elected officials. Thank you to the CHIA members in attendance: Freida Smith, President-elect, Cheryl Austin; Rhonda Anderson; Maria Caban Alizondo; Rosie Zamora; Kamar Braish, Adriana Preciado; Nyunt Than; Teresa Bogaards; and Roberta Baranda.

At last month’s meeting, the Board approved the application and Board approval process, FAQs and component group guiding principles presented by the Component Group Task Force. More information will be provided during CHIA’s Annual Business Meeting on May 15. Two pilot programs are under approval as we begin the application process! Thanks to the CG Task Force for all its great work and time given to bring this exciting program to CHIA members.
